Hi! My name is Ed Minard. I was born and raised in Burlington, Iowa. I love to spend time outdoors taking photographs that capture the beauty all around us. My hometown, Burlington, Iowa, is a beautiful town located on the bluffs of the Mississippi River where Black Hawk spent time. When people think of beautiful places many think of the Rocky Mountains or the beaches of Florida. I certainly love those places as well! However, my home town is a beautiful place as well as can be seen in the photos in my galleries. The nearby towns of Mt. Pleasant, Fort Madison and Keokuk, Iowa, are historical towns with many attractive parks and buildings built in the 1800's and early 1900's.
Each winter, especially in January and February, Lock and Dam 19 at Keokuk, Iowa, and Lock & Dam 18, just north of Burlington, Iowa, are the locations of significant numbers of Bald Eagles as they fish near the dams when the Mississippi River freezes over. Photographers and bird watchers from all around the country can be seen in Keokuk, Burlington, Muscatine, Le Claire, and other towns along the upper Mississippi River as they marvel at these magnificent birds in flight. To access the latest Eagle Count on the Upper Mississippi River:
Southeast Iowa is also a great place to fish, hunt, boat, attend music festivals such at Burlington's Steamboat Days each June, Midwest Old Threshers' Reunion in Mt. Pleasant the five days leading into Labor Day, the Fort Madison Rodeo, Keokuk Bald Eagle Days, and the list goes on. Yes, there is certainly much to do and see in southeast Iowa and western Illinois!
