Photos taken Sunday, March 25, at Hanging Lake, Spouting Rock, Colorado. It is located in Glenwood Canyon, about 7 to 8 miles east of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The trail to reach the lake is 1,020 feet in elevation and a very steep walking distance of 1.20 miles. The upper part of the trail is snow and ice covered in March and quite slippery in places, especially when descending the mountain. The Forest Services calls the trail a "difficult" trail. Hikers are advised to bring enough water. I recommend at least two bottles per person. Good hiking boots or shoes are a must for good ankle and knee support. In winter a staff or walking stick assists greatly. If you are not used to high altitudes, sit and rest as needed along the trail. Use patience to get up and down the trail.
